🧵 Quilt Block Introduction:
Looking for a fresh twist on your next quilting project?
Meet the Twisting Ribbon Star — a playful block that gives the illusion of folded ribbons dancing around a star center. It’s perfect for bright scraps or coordinated fat quarter bundles, adding instant movement and charm to any quilt.

In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through how to piece this block using simple triangles and basic units. Whether you're making a full quilt, a pillow, or a mini wall hanging, this block is sure to steal the show!
📌 Bonus: I’ve linked my favorite rotary cutter, ruler, and fabric bundles from Amazon — tools I use and love. These are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you!) if you purchase them. Thank you for supporting my small business 💖
What You’ll Need:
2 contrasting fabrics
Background fabric (solid or subtle tone-on-tone)
Rotary cutter and cutting mat (my favorite here)
Quilter’s ruler (I use this one daily)
1/4” foot or guide tape
An iron and pressing mat (I recommend this mat)
✨ Cutting Instructions (for one 6" block)

🪡 Step-by-Step Instructions:
This block uses the Stitch-and-Flip technique — be sure to check your alignment before trimming the seam.
Check orientation carefully — the ribbons should spiral around the center!
A precise 1/4" seam is key to matching the angles—sew accurately and press after each seam.

*** If you'd like a slightly larger block, simply enlarge the border. For a finished size of 8", cut the borders to (2) 1.5" x 5.5" and (2) 1.5" x 8.5".

Here’s an example layout measuring around 44" x 55".
You’ll need 35 blocks, 1" finished sashing (cut at 1.5" x 6.5"),
1" cornerstone (cut 1.5" square) and 2" borders.
For fabric requirements:
– Background: approx. 1.5 yards
– Sashing: 5/8 yard
– Border: 1/2 yard
Perfect size for a lap quilt or cozy throw! 🧵

The TwistingStarRibbon pattern is absolutely adorable! I immediately printed it. I’m thinking of making 4 squares with Christmas reds and greens and making pillows for my friends! Thanks so very much for the pattern!
