Interlocking O Quilt Block Free Pattern

There’s something so satisfying about a quilt block that creates movement across the quilt top, and this Interlocking O block does exactly that. The design gives the illusion of linked rings flowing from block to block, yet it’s made entirely with straight seams and simple piecing.

In this pattern, I’m sharing:
Cutting instructions for both 12" and 16" blocks
A beginner-friendly construction method
A printable line drawing so you can color and plan your own fabric combinations before sewing
The 16" block is perfect for jelly roll (2 1/2" strips)

Design Your Own Color Layout
One of my favorite things about this block is playing with color placement before sewing. Inside the pattern, I’ve included a blank line drawing version of the block so you can:
Test different color combinations
Plan scrappy layouts
Audition light and dark fabrics
Create your own unique quilt design
Sometimes just rotating fabrics changes the entire look of the quilt.

Final Thoughts
This block looks intricate, but it’s actually very beginner-friendly once the units are laid out. It’s also a great stash buster and works beautifully in both modern and traditional fabrics.
If you make this block, I’d love to see your version. Try experimenting with different color placements — every combination creates a completely different interlocking effect.
Happy sewing ❤️
