Finished block 6" x 6"

🧵 Free quilt border pattern block - Design Breakdown:

This free quilt border pattern block finish size is 6" x 6" and uses rectangles arranged to create a stepped “L” shape. When repeated around your quilt, it forms a playful interlocking border that works well with both solids and prints. In the sample above, I used a plum floral fabric to add warmth and charm.

✂️ Cutting Tips:

  • Use strip piecing for efficiency! Cut long strips, sew them together, then sub-cut into the sizes needed.

  • Consider varying the print direction for a scrappy look, or keep it consistent for a modern feel.

💡 Border Planning Tip:

This border finishes at 6" x 6", making it a perfect match for quilts using 6" or 12" blocks. That makes it much easier to calculate how many units you’ll need on each side.

🧰 Supplies I Used:

  • This block is perfect for Honeybun fabric, as it uses 1.5" strips.

  • A slotted ruler is ideal for subcutting strip sets—it keeps your cuts straight and consistent.
