Star blocks have always held a special place in quilting. From traditional patchwork to modern interpretations, they continue to inspire quilters of all levels. There’s something so satisfying about watching simple shapes come together to form a striking star—it feels both classic and a little magical every time.

One of the reasons star blocks are so loved is their versatility. You can make them bold with high contrast, soft with blended tones, or playful with scrappy fabrics. Change the background, and the entire personality of the block shifts. That flexibility is what makes star blocks a staple in so many quilt designs.
Today, I’m sharing my version called “Framed Star.” As the name suggests, this block features a star at the center, beautifully enclosed within a structured frame. The framing helps draw the eye inward, making the center fabric a perfect spot for showcasing a favorite print or even a bit of fussy cutting.

This design combines familiar techniques like stitch and flip and simple piecing, but the layout gives it a fresh, slightly bold look. It’s a great block if you want something that feels structured yet still has room for creativity.
For this pattern, I’m providing the cutting measurements only rather than a full step-by-step instructional. My hope is that the video tutorial will guide you through the construction process in a more visual and intuitive way. If you’re already comfortable with basic piecing, you should find it quite approachable.

I may come back and add full written instructions in the future—but not anytime soon. For now, think of this as a flexible guide you can interpret in your own way, which is part of the joy of quilting anyway.

Take your time with fabric selection, pay attention to contrast, and most importantly—enjoy the process. Star blocks have a way of shining no matter how you make them 💛
