If you’ve been following along with my Woven Star series, this is Version 3—a method that balances structure and precision a little differently from the earlier versions. Click here to explore two other ways to make this woven star block: Version 1.0 , Version 2.0
This 3rd version is designed to reduce bias edges, which makes handling and sewing much more stable. But (and I’ll be honest with you), it comes with its own challenge—getting those points to match cleanly, especially where the flying geese units meet the center.
✨ What Makes Version 3 Different?
Fewer bias edges → easier to handle, less stretching
Straight grain edges around the block → great for joining blocks and setting into a quilt
⚠️ The Challenge: Matching Points
The tricky part in this version is right at the heart of the block:
The center unit and flying geese units bring multiple seams together
Bulk can build up quickly
Even a tiny shift can affect the star points
So accuracy really matters here—but don’t worry, a few small adjustments can make a big difference.

Helpful Tips
Press seams open This is one of those times where pressing open really helps reduce bulk. Although the pattern uses pressing to the side, it also works well if you prefer pressing the seams open
Pin at intersections Especially, where the geese meet the center—this is your “make or break” spot.
Sew with a consistent ¼″ seam A slight variation here can throw off the alignment of the entire star.
🎨 Plan Your Colors First
To make things easier, I’ve also included a blank version of the block (no color) so you can try out your own color placement before sewing.
Because this layout combines flying geese units and a busy center, it can be a little confusing at first. Coloring it yourself helps you clearly see how everything fits together—and lets you match the design beautifully with your chosen fabrics.

Why You Might Love This Version
Even though it asks for a bit more precision, Version 3 gives you:
Cleaner joins when assembling a quilt top
A more stable structure overall, thanks to those straight grain edges
It’s a great option if you enjoy a neat, polished finish and don’t mind taking a little extra care with your seams.

🌿 Final Thoughts
This version might not be the easiest of the three, but it’s definitely rewarding. Once everything lines up, the star really shines—sharp points, clean edges, and a beautifully “woven” effect across the block.
If you give it a try, I’d truly love to see your version. Every fabric choice brings a completely different personality to this star 💛
