Nothing says spring charm like a classic tulip quilt block! This adorable 6″ finished tulip block is quick to sew, beginner-friendly, and perfect for using up your favorite small scraps. With simple squares, triangles, and a pieced stem, this block brings a fresh, floral touch to any project.

You can turn a few blocks into a mini wall hanging, make a whole garden of tulips for a quilt, or mix it into a sampler. Try experimenting with different pinks, reds, purples, or even scrappy petals—every tulip will look a little different and just as beautiful!
This block uses Half-Square Triangle units, and my favorite way to make them is the 2-at-a-time method—quick, consistent, and beginner-friendly. The only extra step is trimming, and this little tool has become my lifesaver.

This HST trimmer ruler makes trimming so much easier, faster, and far more accurate. If you’re making lots of HSTs (like in this tulip block!), this ruler is truly a game changer.
I do press my HST seams open sometimes, and this tulip block is definitely one of them. A cordless iron makes it so much easier—the sharp tip gets right into the seam, and there’s no annoying cord getting in the way or tangling up.
The step-by-step instructions, cutting sizes, and assembly diagrams are all included in the free PDF below. Whether you're a newer quilter or a fast-and-fun project lover, this block comes together smoothly and looks adorable in any colorway.
