Rubric Crossroads A Free Quilt Block Pattern & Tutorial

Welcome back to the sewing room, quilting friends! If you found your way here from my latest Facebook Reel over at FabricStacks, I am incredibly thrilled to have you here.

oday, we are diving step-by-step into my brand-new, original quilt block design: Rubric Crossroads. This is block number one of our 10-day series featuring 10 gorgeous 10-inch blocks!

This block holds a truly special aesthetic. By combining rich, deep crimson patterned fabrics with crisp white negative space, it generates a dramatic visual intersection. The sharp, directional star points appear to catch the wind while pulling the gaze inward toward a clean, grounded central cross.

While it looks beautifully intricate, it pieces together smoothly into a perfect 10" x 10" finished block.

📏 Block Specifications

  • Finished Size: 10" x 10" (10.5" x 10.5" unfinished)

  • Skill Level: Confident Beginner

🛒 The Right Tools Make a Difference!

To get those star points looking perfectly sharp and clean without losing your fabric tips in the seams, having the right precision tools makes a monumental difference.

Before you start cutting your favorite red fat quarters, make sure your cutting mat has a sharp blade, and grab a reliable trimming ruler.

✂️ Fabric Selection & Cutting Guide

To achieve the exact look of my original Rubric Crossroads block, select a high-contrast palette. I recommend using a crisp solid white background alongside three coordinating red fabrics from your stash (a vibrant primary red floral, a darker tonal crimson, and a beautiful patterned print for the diagonal star accents).

If you prefer a scrappy version, that works beautifully too! Here are a few fun color scheme ideas to get you started.
