Finished Sizes: 22" × 22"
A colorful autumn-inspired quilt for your wall or tabletop!
Meet October Star, a 22" × 22" quilt design inspired by the warm, rich colors of autumn. With its striking star center, geometric details, and vibrant fall palette, this little quilt makes a lovely seasonal wall hanging or tabletop decoration.
I designed October Star using a combination of familiar quilting units, including Half-Square Triangles (HSTs), Cat's Cradle units, and strip-pieced or stitch-and-flip units.
Although it's a small project, there's plenty of interesting piecing to enjoy!

Why Is This an Intermediate Pattern?
Most of the individual units are fairly straightforward to make, especially if you're already familiar with basic quilting techniques.
The real challenge comes during assembly.
The sharp points where the center-row units meet, particularly around the central star, require careful alignment and accurate seam allowances. Getting those points to meet neatly can be a little tricky, even for experienced quilters.
For that reason, I recommend this pattern for intermediate quilters or confident beginners who are ready to challenge themselves.
My advice? Take your time, pin carefully, and check your alignment before sewing. And remember, handmade quilts don't have to be absolutely perfect to be beautiful!

Fabric and Color Inspiration
I chose a mix of burgundy, burnt orange, golden yellow, and touches of green against a soft cream background to capture the feeling of October.
The contrast between the warm colors and light background helps the star and surrounding geometric shapes stand out.
Of course, you don't have to use autumn colors! Try Christmas fabrics, cool blues, or even a two-color combination to give October Star a completely different look.
